HSBC-SOS water conservation project

HSBC-SOS water conservation project

SES was contracted by the non-profit organization, the Lebanese Association of SOS Children's Villages, to assist them with the implementation of water conservation activities in the Kfarhay Village in Batroun-North Lebanon. The main aim of the project is to fulfill a dual mandate; implement water conservation practices while responding to the local water needs in a sustainable fashion, and to provide better opportunities for the SOS children by investing in improved education and quality of life

Water conservation activities executed in the village were centered on four main tasks:
1-     Decreasing water consumption by the installation of water saving fixture such as kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators and showerheads;
2-     Enhancing the existing rainwater harvesting system in the village, with the replacement of pumps and leaking valves;
3-     Designing and installing a new wastewater treatment plant that will replace the existing septic tank system, and produce treated water that can then be used for the irrigation of surrounding landscape; and
Landscaping of the surrounding areas with planting colorful plants and trees as well as creating a water feature that makes use of the treated water.
